D&D Shenanigans

Hey there, fellow nerds! I'm not sure about you guys, but we've gotten plenty of snow and ice, so it's pretty cold around here. Too cold to go outside, that's for sure. I'm not a fan of wintery weather, but since there's not anything better to do, my older brother Noah and I decided to play some Dungeons and Dragons.

In my opinion, Dungeons and Dragons (affectionately known as D&D, cause hey, it's a real mouthful) should be the official game of nerds. Or maybe it already is. :D
Anyways, there's no shame in being a nerd! Gotta embrace it. Heheh.

Noah and I had wanted to play D&D for awhile, but for some reason it just seemed like it would be really tough to learn--and really tough to DM (for those of you who are less nerdy, DM stands for "Dungeon Master", the dude who sort of runs the game). Well, I haven't learned a whole lot about DMing even though it's something I might be interested in doing someday, but I think it is pretty tough. You've gotta know the rules of the game. You've also gotta be able to improv somewhat--cause let's be realistic. Annoying players who just want to break the game do exist. (Noah may or may not have already told me he's gonna do this to me one day if I ever do a campaign.)

I kind of was cooking up an idea that I might be able to someday turn into a decent campaign, but I definitely want to have more knowledge of the game before I try to do a campaign. I'd rather not embarrass myself. :)

I'm looking forward to reading the Dungeon Master's Guide. Noah lent it to me, so maybe with that and the help of Google, I can become a DM sometime. DM tips are welcomed, by the way. :)

Some of Noah's and my nerd friends have played D&D before, and in our current campaign I have a cleptomaniac halfling named Marisol Brandywine. She is literally obsessed with gold and treasure, and she cannot be trusted, even around her friends. It's almost comical how foolish she is! No. . . it's definitely comical. One of the guys in our group plays with an alchoholic dwarf lady who murdered her family in a drunken rage, and Noah plays an edgy, very serious dragonborn dude. So yeah. Our campaign has been. . . interesting, to say the least.

Unfortunately, we aren't able to get the whole gang together as often as we'd like, so Noah and I have been working on our own campaign at home. (I included pics!!) He's DMing, and we're both learning as we go, which is nice. I'm playing as an elf named Aryana, and she's a lot calmer than Marisol. She and my companion, Wyrd Costell, are pretty good friends.

This campaign is a store bought (I guess. . . but I think he got it online) one. I'm pretty sure it came in some sort of D&D kit or something. I guess it's basic, but I'm not sure if Noah's ready to DM yet, so it's pretty good for amateurs. There's this dragon we're eventually supposed to slay (I'm kinda scared to fight him cause apparently I'm only level 4 and he seems pretty powerful), although we're not quite there yet. My favorite part is the side quests! In the town we're residing in, it's not hard to get a quest here and there.

Tonight Wyrd (Noah controls him) and I narrowly escaped a mine full of wererats. We were trying to help a friend out, but that went terribly wrong and we just escaped with our lives! Those pesky wererats can't be harmed with your average blade. It's got to be silver, and we didn't have any on hand, so that was rotten luck. I guess Noah forgot about this and only remembered after I had stabbed one of them. That whole situation took a bit of reworking, but in the end it worked out alright. I'm so excited because I got to level up tonight!

Here are some pictures from tonight's session.

(Excuse the text on these. . . they're saved from my Instagram story.) Here I was pretty scared, convinced that we were about to be killed by wererats. There were three of them in the room with Wyrd and I and two more guards at the gate. But, with a bit of magic and a quick big brain stunt, we managed to escape almost unscathed. Wyrd had an arrow sticking out of his back and I had to cut it out of him, but yeah.)

We got back to town and got to level up!! The DM was very generous today. :) Like I said, I haven't learned a whole lot yet, but I think the most important bit of advice you might ever receive is this: be nice to the DM. Please. I don't care if you don't like them or if they're annoying. :P They're the DM, and the DM makes the rules, whether you like it or not.

Not gonna lie, I had to suck up to him a couple of times because the dice were very mean to me tonight. :(

Anyways, I just wanted to update you guys on my latest D&D shenanigans. I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm hoping to do some more posts on D&D and what I'm learning about it, but things get busy around here, so I'm not making any promises.

Do any of you guys play D&D? I'd love to hear about it in the comments! :)
