Another D&D Session

Hey there, fellow nerds! Today we got maybe another five inches of snow--which is totally crazy. I don't think I've ever seen such big snowflakes before. There really isn't a whole lot to do around here, so it sure is a good thing D&D exists. Hehehe. Yesterday we had to risk driving to the store because my parents ran out of coffee, and (desperate for a bit of cash) I sold Noah my Rankle, Master of Pranks card for 5 bucks. That bought me a bag of Chex mix and a drink. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Anyways, we had a pretty interesting D&D session. I found this huge bell made from solid gold in some fortress or something. It had a coat of paint over it, made to look like copper, but I guess I passed my perception check. Of course I got super excited (um, treasure?? Doesn't that excite every slightly greedy D&D player), but the thing was bolted to the rafter, so I naturally couldn't get it down. I walked about 50 miles back to the town of Phandalin, purchased some smith's tools, received another quest, and set out once more.

We stopped by the fortress again and I was able to free the bell, but Wyrd and I decided it would be most practical to leave the bell there and collect on our way back home, since our quest was only a few miles away. The bell was also a good 50 or 60 pounds, so it wouldn't be easy to just lug it around with us.

We were supposed to head to this ranch and check on this guy who had probably been captured by orcs. The dude's ranch--rather, what was left of it--was a wreck. The animals had been set loose, the barn had been burned, and the farmhouse was inhabited by orcs. On our way to the farmhouse, I saw a cow and--don't ask me why--decided that I wanted to kill it. I know, I know: I'm an elf and totally not supposed to be an animal murder hobo, so I kinda got out of character there for a minute.

I shot the cow with an arrow, killing it. Naturally Wyrd looked pretty disturbed, and when he asked me why I did it, I didn't have an answer! So I just told him that cow tongue was a delicacy and it might fetch a good price, or something along the lines of that, and proceeded to collect the cow's tongue.

We snuck inside the farmhouse but failed the stealth check, so the orcs saw us. There were three of them just hanging out in one room, so we took them on with an advantage because they were surprised.

Almost as soon as we had killed those orcs, two more rushed down the stairs and attacked us. I had only 4 HP remaining when we managed to kill them! I think one thing that definitely helped us was the fact that one of the orcs had rolled a nat 1 on his attack roll, so when he tried to attack us with his axe, he swung it too far and the blade got stuck in the floor, giving him disadvantage until the next turn.

After checking the other rooms in search of loot and that dude we were supposed to find, Alfonse, we discovered a bag of treasure (aha!) but really nothing else. So we went outside. There we found two wooden doors in the ground, leading down a staircase to where Al was tied up with a sack over his head. We freed him and he gave us his thanks, blah blah blah--and here's the terrible part. He offered us a handsome reward (something like mithril armor, if I remember correctly) if we could find his prized cow.

His cow. Which happened to be the same cow that I killed for no reason and removed the tongue from. Oops! That sure would have been nice to know before!

So I spun a quick lie and told him that I found his cow dead ("The orcs must have killed her. . . I'm so sorry. . ."). As proof, I handed him the little cow bell I had taken from her body.

*sniff sniff*

Guys, I'm really not heartless. I felt absolutely horrible about what I did to that poor cow. . . I mean, how was I supposed to know it was his pet? I asked Noah if Wyrd could bring the cow back to life since he's a cleric, but I guess he's not a necromancer, so I didn't have any luck. Poor little cow. Rest in peace.

Al rewarded us, and after trying to persuade him to come back to Phandalin with us, he told us he was going to stay there and try to rebuild his ranch. So we left, collecting my prized bell on our way back home. It took us around three days to get back to Phandalin because we had to take turns carrying it. Phew!

We finally got back to town and Barthen, the guy at the shop, told us that he had neither the funds nor the audience to purchase the bell. But he told us that the lady over at the miners' exchange might be able to buy it from us.

After some haggling, I sold the bell to the lady (I forgot her name) for 1650 or so gold. Not bad! I may or may not be low key rich. :)

I'm pretty sure we left off there and haven't picked up since, but we might be playing tomorrow. What do you guys think about the D&D session posts? Do you think I should do more if things are eventful enough?

Thanks for reading. :) Stay safe and have a nice day!
